It was a wonderful day spent with the family. While Kelly took Rocket for a run this morning, I decided to clean the pollen off our front and back porches. The kids soon joined in and at one point were actually squabbling over who would be helping more! It was music to my ears! I only hope this volunteerism will last through their teenage years.
After doing a great job helping me clean, the kids found some “action” in the front yard when the neighborhood kids came over to play. I kept an eye on them while I washed the pollen off our cars and Kelly mowed the grass. We had just enough time to get cleaned up before driving to Brier Creek for Hallie’s soccer game.
Hallie’s game went well, in spite of her forgetting to bring her shin guards. Kelly made a trip to Target to buy replacement ones which Hallie paid for, and the problem was solved. Her team, the Monarchs, went on to win the game 4-1.
During the game, Travis played on the playground behind us. He and the kids pretended to work in a Wendy’s and “sold” smoothies, burgers, and fries to the adults who walked by. I was outraged at paying $100 for a strawberry smoothie, especially when Kelly got one for just a dollar. Maybe it wasn’t my lucky day!
We returned from the game in time to meet some neighbors on a “pub crawl” they were doing around the city. We happened to meet them at Seaboard Station and, after checking in and striking out with 18 Seaboard and J. Betski’s, the crowd went to Peace China for a beer. We ate at Peace China last night but since the crowd had never eaten there (and there were few other choices at Seaboard tonight) I thought they might enjoy it. The family and I got food again while the others got beers and an appetizer. We enjoyed the company and were sorry to see it go once the beers were emptied.
The kids got to bed way too late but it was an exceptional day of fun for everyone. And to think we’ve got another full day tomorrow!
