For the past few days, signs have been hanging on the street corners of Windsor Forest, announcing some sort of aid effort for the victims of last week’s tsunami. I didn’t think much of this until today, when I found out who was behind it.
As we drove out of the neighborhood, we passed a table staffed by energetic young girls. There were colorful signs and tables spread out by the road. We were in a rush at the time, but we were determined to stop on our way back by.
It turns out the girls had put this aid effort together all on their own, after seeing the devastation wreaked by the deadly tsunami. They had drawn all the signs, put up the flyers, and baked all the goodies all by themselves.
I was so impressed with their creative drive and generosity that I called up the News and Observer so that others could see what a little compassion and organization can accomplish. Their story should run tomorrow.
Just when I was beginning to wonder if the younger generation cared about their world, or if video-game-fueled apathy had instead taken over, I discover fine, upstanding world citizens right in my own backyard.
Thanks to their work today, over 500 dollars will be added to relief efforts.
The kids are all right.
Thanks for calling the paper, but you could have at least left us a few bucks.
Sincerely,
Energetic Young Girls
