Well, my employer closed the doors on my business unit this morning. I’m officially “between gigs.” It’s deja-vu all over again.
More once I get my things collected.
[Update: 11 May]: Welcome folks, from Planet KDE. Thanks, RangerRick for the linkage! See my blog for the latest musings and post-mortems about our layoffs.
Sorry to hear that…I’ve been there more than a couple of times myself and it’s never fun. However, maybe this your chance to figure out how to make a living blogging 😉 Actually, I got an inquiry from a VoIP company in NY this morning. I doubt you want to move but you never know if they need anybody in the South or would entertain telecommuting. I’ll forward it to you via email.
Ouch! The entire NC office laid off? Man that does sound like Deja Vu. 🙁
Thanks, Chris! I appreciate you looking out for me.
Yeah, earning a living by blogging would rock. I’ve got some time to figure out what to do, so perhaps I can consider things outside of my usual comfort zone.
No, not all of us. Just some of us. Some key developers are still around, though their roles may change radically.
I too am one of those laid off. It’s a shame, much like last time, we had a lot of talent, it just didn’t pull together somehow the way it should.
You’re a smart guy and I’m certain you’ll land on your feet. Here’s to sooner, rather than later!
And right after the promotion, too? Lame.
Check out this guy’s blog: http://www.problogger.net/
He seems to know a thing or two about blogging for a living, makes 6 or 7 figures doing it on his own, has made it on the top list at Technorati, and has attracted a bunch of commenters to his blog that also know a thing or two about making money at this game.
Kind regards,
Justis
