Rainwater Solutions

Decided to get out of the house for a change on Thursday. My destination was Raleigh’s Rainwater Solutions, makers of rain barrels and cisterns. Having had a water tank for months now (a full one, I might add), I wanted to see what the next step up would be.

The owners, Mike and Lynn Ruck, were very friendly and showed me around their warehouse. Rain barrels of all shapes and sizes were around. They had some big guns in the back, including one underground tank that can sock away 1200 gallons of free water: enough to water lawns from what Lynn says.

They were obviously very knowledgeable about sizing, filtering, pumps and other subjects I never considered, being an amateur and all. I felt pretty confident that when I get to the point where I want to get serious about rainwater collection, these were the folks I would talk to.

If you’d like to learn more about how you can collect rain, go talk to Mike and Lynn. You can find Rainwater Solutions near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Whitaker Mill Road. And tell ’em MT.Net sent ya!

  1. Be sure to find rain barrels which offer mesh mosquito guards, and also look for barrels which have overflow valves-allowing the excess water to flow out of the rain barrels and away from your foundation. Hooking a drip hose to this valve is a great way to give your garden or flower bed a constant source of moisture.
