The eyeball sting is going around

A joke among the family (and nowhere else) is an adaptation of the Muppet Show joke involving talking houses.

“My wife’s not feeling well,” one house says to the other.

“What’s the matter?”

“She’s got the eyeball sting!”

This is uproariously funny to Hallie and Travis (the original punch line is “she’s got the shingles”). I wasn’t laughing earlier this week, though; I had the real eyeball sting. It was some sort of conjunctivitis in my right eye.

It began gradually on Tuesday evening after the massive rain earlier this week. I got through the day with my contacts in but immediately removed them after work. I developed a mild headache around that time, too.

When I awoke Wednesday morning, my right eye felt like it had been open all night, like there was some sort of grit under my eyelid. My right ear passage seemed a bit congested, too – as if I had a cold. I wore my glasses all day Wednesday, thinking my contact lens had scratched my eye. I noticed my right eye was seeing halos around the lights that night, too. By bedtime Wednesday I felt it was clearing up and yesterday I was back to wearing my contacts.

What’s weird about all of this is my friend Kevin had the same thing just happen to him (as did his friend). That makes me think its some contagious conjunctivitis or something.

Y’all wash those hands really well, ok?
