Looks like my love affair with Net10 has taken a turn for the worse.
I decided to upgrade my Motorola V171 Net10 phone to a newer Motorola W377g. I’ve entered quite a few numbers into the ancient V171 and rather than punching in all of these numbers into my new phone I was looking forward to uploading my contacts into it using the phone’s USB port.
Imagine my disappointment when I found mention on various Internet forums that Net10 has deliberately crippled this functionality. I found it to be the case myself when my connection software timed out when connecting to the phone.
I complained to the service department only to be given the standard “sorry, there is no way to do that” line. Very poor plan to make users pay minutes charges to transfer data to their phones when Net10 could give them more freedom. I hate things that limit my freedom.
Yeah, I know we’re talking about prepaid phone service but up until now I’ve been a big fan of the company and service. Now I’m rethinking that fandom.
On a related note, I realized that it was dumb for me to simply buy more Net10 minutes for my existing phone when I can get free minutes with each purchase of a new phone. My recent phone … uh, “upgrade” cost me $2.02 more than it would’ve cost to just buy the minutes, and I got a new phone in the deal (phone with 300 free minutes: $30. 300 minutes alone are worth $30). From now on I’m not buying minutes without getting a phone with them!
“I hate things that limit my freedom.”
Unbelievable!
I’ve had Net10 for such a long time and I haven’t had any problems with it at all. I recently just got a new phone and I got 300 minutes and 60 days of service upon activation. It is one of the best deals they’ve ever had! It is definetely far from failing me! It also has the best overall coverage for a prepaid network. How can anyone go wrong with that?
Overall, I’m satisfied. I just wish I could customize my phone using its USB port.
I see you are posting from Miami. You don’t work for Net10 by any chance, do you Sandy?
No I’m a college student at UM. I use net10 because it’s cheaper to talk to family across the country.
