Independence National Historical Park

The client site overlooks the Independence National Historical Park. The Liberty Bell is literally right across the street. While we were working I was drawn to the conference room window, overlooking the spot where President George Washington lived in the original President’s House (the pre-White House).

Excavation this summer revealed hidden slave passageways at Washington’s house, a surprise to most everyone. Bad timing meant that I arrived right after the excavation site was reburied. The park gurus want to protect the site while they figure out how to properly present this new discovery.

We took a lunch break to a nearby diner, passing right in front of Independence Hall. I felt an inexplicable excitement to be so near the place. While I’m an admitted political junkie, the lure of this building surprised even me. Needless to say I am quite looking forward to taking a tour of it, though work must take priority.

There is so much history here that I’m wishing I had a whole week to soak everything up. Instead the only thing I’m going to soak up is bucketsfull of rain over the next few days.

Now, let me see if I can track down that umbrella vendor and maybe a bite to eat.
