California dreaming

Since our San Juan Islands trip didn’t work out we’ve been recalibrating our vacation plans. I’ve always wanted to visit Northern California and its ancient redwood forests. Its well off the beaten path (a 6 hour drive from either Portland or San Francisco) so I’ve never had the chance to “drop by” on a business trip.

We’re checking into where we might find a cabin near the area’s national parks. Hopefully things will fall into place soon and we can visit these wondrous forests.

  1. Dude, make sure the area you want to go to isn’t on fire … all of Northern California is on fire right now … even Big Sur is burning.

  2. ‘all of Northern California’ would be a gross exaggeration. People who have never visited don’t realize the scale of the state – the third largest. I do recommend visiting the redwoods, but the large forested areas are somewhat north of San Francisco. If you follow 101 all the way to the Oregon border you will drive though miles and miles of redwoods. Recommended.

  3. Thanks, jhays, for chiming in. While we’ve already booked a place in North Carolina for our upcoming vacation, we’re still very interested in seeing the forests of Northern California some day!
