Rain

We got some surprise rain yesterday evening which was simply captivating to enjoy. Kelly and I stood on our screened porch and just grinned. I was happy to note my rain tank refilled as well, with 30 gallons added from this rain.

We didn’t always smile when it rained – our enthusiasm was always tempered by the streams of water running out of our clogged gutters. Since I put the gutter guards on the house this hasn’t been a problem. I can’t overstate how impressed I am how this $50 solution has worked. It is teh awesome.

  1. We were at the Skywarn dinner last night when the rain started and it was interesting to see how everyone there was just as surprised by it.

Apparently they’ve now started offering door prizes at the dinners (which happen so rarely people forget about them). The prize last night was a very nice rain gauge from the NWS (which I won, it seems, even though B & I had to leave early because it was his bedtime). It measures the 1st inch to something like 1/100th accuracy before spilling over into an overflow container. I definitely need to get it up soon (and get my WX200 station working correctly).

  2. Doesn’t look like you are going to get any rain from our friend Fay. Fay likes FL so much she has decided to stay overhead for a while then run (more like mosey – Fay is about the slowest storm ever when it comes to getting somewhere fast) over to the panhandle to see what’s going there.

She’s left us a little present of 20 inches of rain so far (30 elsewhere in the county) with another 4-6 promised before she finally gets out of here. Luckily we’re mostly sand – can you imagine the flooding NC would have with your red clay.

TV is sort of funny. They are currently giving us FLASH flood warnings! Like it’s raining in the mountains of Florida and going to sneak up on us like it does out west.

    Ron
