This afternoon Raleigh’s City Council appointed me to a seat on Raleigh’s Parks, Recreation, and Greenway Advisory Board. As a long-time Raleigh resident I have enjoyed our city’s parks and have participated in a number of its classes. Our kids are pool rats, too, so I will be well-versed on our city’s pools!
I look forward to serving the city!
Our fam enjoyed a nice Labor Day on the greenway. We did that stretch along Crabtree creek from Raleigh Blvd to Noble.
I took a look at my (2003) greenway map and was surprised to see that I was so close to the Buckeye trail on the Ral Blvd end of that greenway! Wish I’d’a known!
I’m also trying to figure out how to get from Noble to that stretch that parallels Allegheny over by North Hills Park. We tried it from the Allegheny side and ran into a sandy trail and a steep staircase that didn’t work out too well with my youngest in the trailer.
My 6.5 year old made it 13.5mi on Mon under his own steam!
Oh, yeah – I went to the second of the Raleigh bike plan workshops. Interesting stuff – looks like a good plan for the future (wish they could speed things, though).
They had large maps placed on tables for everyone to mark-up. It was great sitting around a table with folks that new the area roads, pointing out problem areas and ‘secret’ connectors between existing safe roads.
Sounds like you had a good ride Monday!
There is a street detour around the sandy part of the trail. If you’re heading from the eastern end, you go past the staircase part, turn right, and head down the road 1/4 mile or so. Over a slight hill you’ll see a small parking area on your right and a break in the trees where you can pick up the paved greenway again.
Congrats!
Next up: Mark being elected to City Council, then Mayor, then Governor, then Vice-President!!!! 🙂 😛
