This morning I fired my doctor. There have been too many instances where I left a message for someone to do a simple thing such as refill a prescription and either the request has been ignored or done incorrectly. In both cases I was never notified that any action had been taken – it was up to me to follow up. Unacceptable. And I’ve heard this same thing from my friends who also were his patients.
It was also hard to actually see my doctor when I needed it. Frequently his schedule was only open weeks in advance and I would wind up seeing another doctor. Not cool. Then there’s the location: my doctor’s office is in Cary while I’m in Raleigh. I don’t want to spend more time driving to and from his office than I do actually being seen by the doctor.
Lastly, my doctor recently announced he was jumping ship to start his own practice. While that might have been an encouraging development, the outfit he’s associating with, MDVIP, is not for me. A so-called “concierge medical care” system, MDVIP gives patients access to the doctor 24/7 but at a cost: a $1500 annual fee!
Uh, no thanks. I’m not looking for a doctor who’s only in it for the money so it’s time to part ways.
I’ve found an inside-the-Beltline doctor’s office that looks promising: Boylan Healthcare. I don’t know yet how they stack up as compared to my old doctor’s practice, but at least when I called I spoke to a human right off the bat. That’s more than I can say about my old doctor’s practice.
Dude, I’m with you…I got the same doctor and i don’t plan on following and have had the same issues.
What we really need to do is strip the AMA of their cartel powers and get more doctors out there!
Telemedicine will help, too. I want to be able to see doctors in India and Cuba through videoconferencing. That will increase competition!
dude, I totally agree!! Am I sensing a libertarian streak in you?!? 😉
My libertarian streak should not be news to you, my friend. 🙂
