Mexican Radio

What does he say? Watch their awesome video, which still rocks after 25 (!) years.

Mexican Radio
Wall of Voodoo

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder
And the touch of a world that is older
I turn the switch and check the number
I leave it on when in bed I slumber
I hear the rhythms of the music
I buy the product and never use it
I hear the talking of the DJ
Can’t understand just what does he say?

I Can’t Watch This

Inspired by my MythTV tinkering…

I Can’t Watch This
Weird Al Yankovic

I can’t watch this. I can’t watch this
I can’t watch this. I can’t watch this

My my my my TV makes me so bored
Makes me say, oh my lord
What is this garbage here?
Wanna cover my eyes and plug my ears
It sucks, and that’s no lie
It’s about as much fun as watching paint dry
Lowers my IQ one notch
And that’s the reason why, uh, I can’t watch

They call him Bruce?

I headed home from work early yesterday, not because of some emergency, but so my wife could spend the evening with some guy from New Jersey. Name is Bruce something.

At least she called from the show and shared some music with me. Here’s the set list from the show, too.

Romantica Redux

Our friends, the band Romantica, are back in town tonight and playing at the Berkeley Cafe. We thought we might play host to them again but they’ve upgraded their accommodations since last time. I’m told their crowds have gotten ten times bigger since they’ve been touring. Not too shabby.

If you’ve got the evening free, swing on by the Berkeley and check ’em out. See you there!

Snakes in the Grass

I bought The Essex Green’s Cannibal Sea CD from Durham’s Merge Records. It is awesome.

The Essex Green

Two feet caught in the shadows, caught in the shadow show
(please tell me what is going on)
Oh, I can’t, it’s nothing I’ve known

Signing shapes in the moonlight, keeping the laughter low
(please tell me what is going on)

Oh, I can’t, it’s convoluted
A change of mind today for certain
I know the book, I think I wrote it
The author’s dead, it’s Fiction 101

Cancer claims Jeff Healey

Just found out that legendary blind Canadian guitarist Jeff Healey died Sunday. He was just 41 years old. The retinoblastoma cancer that robbed him of his eyesight as an infant finally took his life.

I think Healey’s performance in Road House was the highlight of the whole cheesy film, but opinions vary.

He leaves behind a wife, 13-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. Sad to hear he’s gone.

Here he is performing Angel Eyes (Rickroll-safe YouTube video). He had amazing talent.

Always Love

Geez. Here I go again…
