TriLUG Talk Scheduled

I signed up today to do another TriLUG talk. This one’s on “open-source sandboxes.” In other words, ways to run one operating system inside another. I’ll be the featured speaker on February 10th and I’m really excited about it. It’s a fun topic!

Here’s my description of the talk:

On The Mend

I dragged myself into work today, with the help of Kelly, who drove me. Her car is in the shop this week so I offered to let her use mine. It was fun having company on the usually-quiet trip.

I’m pretty sure I looked scary to my coworkers, who wisely kept their distance as I grossed them out with my hacking, coughing and sneezing. While I wasn’t the most fun to be around, I can’t really afford to take time off. Too much to do.

A good night’s sleep will do even more to bring me back. That’s where I’m heading now.

And for the record, I really did go to bed at 7:30 last night. I don’t think I’ve done that since I was four.

Train

Another train just went by, another late-night freight. I don’t care if its thunderously loud, its a mesmerizing spectacle. I drop what I’m doing every time it passes.

Maybe its time to seek professional help. I’m a train junkie.

Highlights of 2004, Number 2

There was lots of work put in ahead of the actual event, but that event finally happened this summer. Moving is typically difficult, but ours was fairly easy, all things considered.

Trains

Watching a few trains go by yesterday made me think: wow, dragging tons of freight around is incredibly inefficient. There’s got to be a better way.

I’ll let you know when I come up with the “better way” part. 🙂

Colds Arrive With a Vengeance

I spent the day feeling like one of those freight trains behind our house smacked into me. I started off cold, wearing a pullover and jeans. By dinnertime I was in short sleeves and shorts.

There have also been multiple sneezes. And Kelly is dealing with her cold at the same time. It’s pretty miserable here.

Fortunately, Hallie seems to be getting over her cold, and Travis is still healthy. If we can all get over it, this will be a much happier home.

I posted so many stories this morning because I got up at 5:30, much earlier than I usually do. I couldn’t sleep if I’d wanted to.

So its been a long day. If you’ll excuse me, I believe a bed is calling me.

News and Observer Bake Sale Story

Yesterday’s bake sale story made it to the front page! Unfortunately, it’s just the front page of the website.

Looks like the photographer never made it out to see the kids. And I wish I’d remained in the background. Oh well.
